The 2025 NBA All-Star Game is shaping up to be an exciting event that will meet fan’s expectations that will feature a brand-new four-team pickup-style tournament format. The teams were selected on Thursday night on TNT by the “Inside the NBA” crew, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, and Charles Barkley, with each person drafting an eight-man squad from the 24-player All-Star pool. A fourth team, led by Candace Parker, will consist of the winning team from the Rising Stars tournament.

Set to take place on February 16 at the Chase Center in San Francisco, the 2025 NBA All-Star Game will feature a fast-paced atmosphere with semifinals played to 40 points and then a championship game played to 25. Here’s a breakdown of each team and what to expect from this thrilling new format.

Team Shaq: Olympic Chemistry and Experience

Shaquille O’Neal built a powerhouse and veteran squad featuring LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum, and Kevin Durant, all that played together on Team USA during the 2024 Olympics, winning gold. This pre-existing chemistry gives Team Shaq a major advantage, as these players are already familiar with each other’s playstyles. Players such as Damian Lillard, James Harden, and Jaylen Brown round out the roster, making Team Shaq one of the most balanced squads in the tournament.

Team Kenny: The Future of the NBA

Kenny Smith took a different approach, drafting a youthful and athletic team led by key players such as Anthony Edwards, Jalen Brunson, and Jaren Jackson Jr. This team is built for high-energy, fast-break basketball, with young stars Jalen Williams, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, Cade Cunningham, and Tyler Herro providing competitive support. Expect Team Kenny to speed the pace, implement dynamic plays, and showcase the league’s young talent.

Team Chuck: Global Superstars Ready to Dominate

Charles Barkley focused on international talent, drafting Nikola Jokić, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Victor Wembanyama. With Jokić and Giannis winning four of the last five MVP awards, this team is loaded with size, skill, and versatility. Pascal Siakam, Alperen Şengün, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Donovan Mitchell complete the roster, making Team Chuck a serious contender. Their combination of dominant big men and elite playmakers gives them a unique advantage, allowing them to control the paint while maintaining strong perimeter scoring. If they build quick chemistry, their mix of international stars could prove to be unstoppable.

Team Candace: The Rising Stars Wild Card

Team Candace will feature the winners of the Rising Stars tournament, which consists of rookies, sophomores, and G League players that have stood out this season. While their roster is yet to be determined, this team will bring youthful energy and an underdog mentality that could lead to surprising upsets. Their opportunity to prove themselves on a big stage, combined with their raw talent and chemistry from the tournament, could make them a dangerous wildcard.

Expectations from the 2025 NBA All-Star Game

With a brand-new format and four competitive teams, fans can expect high-scoring, fast-paced action. Team Shaq’s Olympic chemistry makes them early favorites, but Team Chuck’s international superstars could prove to be unstoppable. However, Team Kenny’s young talent is looking to make a statement, and Team Candace remains a wildcard that could shake up the entire tournament.

One thing is certain, the 2025 NBA All-Star Game will be unlike any other, delivering excitement, star power, and unforgettable moments on the court.
