The Philadelphia 76ers are talking about practice, and according to their rookie, V.J. Edgecombe, those sessions can sometimes go overboard.
The 2025 third overall pick sat down with the Club 520 Podcast, hosted by former NBA player Jeff Teague, and shared details about the team’s current chemistry. Edgecombe said the team was forged through intense practices that can get a little too heated — so heated that teammates have nearly exchanged punches.

“We were talking about the depth of that team early on… no matter who is in the lineup, no matter who is in the game, y’all all get to it. You [VJ] come out killin’, Tyrese Maxey takes his game to the next level. Y’all got a squad, man. I know that practice must be different,” said Edgecombe who is fresh from winning the MVP in the Rising Stars game.
“Yeah. I ain’t gonna lie. N****s was about to throw hands in there, in practice. I think that helped us a lot, though.”
Edgecombe is considered part of the team’s core, along with MVP candidate Tyrese Maxey and 2023 MVP Joel Embiid.
The team has been hounded by trade rumors all season long, to the point that some players have had to publicly address being included in reported trade packages.

V.J. Edgecombe on Joel Embiid
Edgecombe still has to learn the ropes and the intense practices are only parts of it. He got the best big brothers in the team.
Maxey takes care of the intangibles but in terms of skills, he has Embiid to observe.
“He’s cool as hell, bro. He’s just chill,” he said when asked about Embiid.

“He is in his own little world. Yo, I swear I never seen someone like really that good. I just sit there watching him going at people.”
The Sixers will return to action Thursday when they host the Atlanta Hawks. They are currently sixth in the Western Conference standings, one game behind the Toronto Raptors.
