A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces got an honest take from their head coach, following their recent loss to the Seattle Storm that forced a decisive Game 3 for the first round of the 2025 playoffs.
In a post-game interview, Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon talked about what she thought went wrong with Game 2, which ended with A’ja Wilson and the team losing it to the Storm.

“We just didn’t do a good job,” Hammon said. “We missed nine free throws, [committed] nine turnovers. It’s a shame. I feel like we let that one go. Down the stretch, soft. Just, soft.”

The Las Vegas Aces lost what could have been their pass for the first round of the 2025 playoffs, as the Seattle Storm bounced back from a huge deficit from the first half of the game. The Aces initially outscored the Storm 34-17 during the third quarter.
“This team hasn’t been beaten in a long time,” Storm guard Skylar Diggins said in a post-game interview. “We felt like we could because we’ve had success versus them before this year.”
During the game A’ja Wilson logged 21 points, 13 rebounds, and 1 steal.
A’ja Wilson Named AP Player of The Year, Twice in a Row
A’ja Wilson has been honored as the Associated Press Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after producing another standout campaign with the Las Vegas Aces.
Aces head coach Becky Hammon praised Wilson for her impact on all aspects of the game. Hammon pointed out that Wilson is very good at making defensive plays that change the character of a game, and that she usually gets at least one highlight-reel stop every game, every two games.

“She’s put in the work, and she passes all the tests. The math tests, the optics tests. She’s the most exciting player in the W,” Hammon said. “And here’s the thing, she’s also the most exciting player on the defensive end. She will do something once a game defensively that’s going to get you out of your seat. She’s the only player in this league that I’ve seen that has defensive highlights on a consistent basis.”
So far, A’ja Wilson is averaging 23.4 points, 9.95 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game this season. She is shooting 50.4% from the floor and 39.3% from the three-point line.
