Anfernee Simons scored back to back 20+ points for the first time in his career as part of the Boston Celtics. That is what he averaged in his last three seasons with the Portland Trailblazers.

The last one, in win against the Orlando Magic, was more impressive as he scored 23 points in just 22 minutes. He needed 33 minutes in the last one before that.
His teammate Jaylen Brown thought his recent type of performances is what they need. He is also aware that his new teammate is capable of that.
However, the whole team has the responsibility to put him in a comfortable position to allow him to play his natural game.
“That’s what we need. Anfernee is capable offensively,” Brown told reporters after their Sunday game.
“We’ve got to continue to find spots and space for him to be a playmaker for himself and for others. Be aggressive. He’s capable, so we’ve got to continue to empower finding that rhythm for him. It’s not easy coming off the bench, a new role for him. But I think he’s been adjusting well … he can fill it up if you give him space.”

Asked Jaylen Brown about Anfernee Simons, who has scored 20 points in consecutive games:

Anfernee Simons on what changed for him
What Brown said is just a tip of what Celtics need from him. He was basically signed by the Celtics to fill the hole left by Jayson Tatum who will might not return this season.
Simons, who is getting paid $27 million this season, is capable of scoring. He was the second best scorer with the Blazers when he was still with them and Damian Lillard did not leave them for the Milwaukee Bucks.
The question now is why did it take more than 10 games? Simons said it was the role change.
“It’s for sure an adjustment,” said Simons about his improved play.

“Like I said, the past couple of years, when you started, teams are guarding you aggressively from the jump. And so now you’ve got to take your time and read the game and see how the best way you can attack it. So that was my thought process going into each and every game. And now everything is kind of flipped.
“So it’s just a change of how you’re going to approach each and every game, and how you are going to do the small things as well, that Joe wants me to do, and the whole coaching staff wants me to do, and also just being myself as well.”
