Boston Celtics need players that can score following the injury to Jayson Tatum. They got Anfernee Simons for that. The former Portland Trailblazers guard joined the Celtics over the summer through a trade that sent Jrue Holiday to Rip City.

Simons was Blazers’ topscorer last season averaging 19.3 points per game. That should be enough to compensate for Tatum’s 26.8 per outing. Well, that is if gets to suit up for them.

The 26-year-old shooting guard has been launched by the Celtics as their player, even in their main social media accounts. However, rumors of him not getting shipped before the start of the season still don’t die. The latest one says he might find himself back in the Western Conference to join the Houston Rockets who recently lost starting point guard Fred VanVleet to a season ending injury.

The main motivation for Celtics’ part is his salary and them tryin to avoid the luxury tax.

Jayson Tatum is excited about Anfernee Simons

With the training camp just a few days, all signs point to Simons donning the green and white jersey for the Celtics. The final nail in the coffin to bury any trade rumors is Tatum’s words about the 2018 24th overall pick.

“We’re bringing in guys like Anfernee who’s been very very good in the NBA in a different, you know, environment and now we’re bringing him into an environment where, you know, the expectations are a little different,” Tatum said on USA Today.

“You know, he’s an unbelievable player, and I think he will thrive in a situation like that.”

Before him, Celtics president also expressed his admiration of Simons’ scoring ability.

“He is an electric scorer,” Stevens said.

“He’s an outstanding shooter. He is a guy that teams will legitimately be thinking about when they enter the game.”

The surest thing right now is Celtics need someone who can help Jaylen Brown in scoring. Simons – both on paper and eye test – might just be that guy.
