Angel Reese’s frustrations boiled over this week, and the fallout has been swift. After calling out her teammates and questioning the Chicago Sky’s direction, the 22-year-old forward has become the center of a storm that now includes longtime critic Jason Whitlock.

Whitlock, never shy about taking shots at Reese, didn’t hold back on Wednesday. Reacting to a report from Front Office Sports’ Annie Costabile, he blasted the “Chi-Town Barbie” for being “toxic” and even speculated she’s trying to engineer a move to Dallas.
“This is what they say when you ghost the franchise with a ‘back’ injury for 3 weeks,” Whitlock wrote on X. “No one likes playing with Angel Reese. No one. Been true since college. She has a 2-year expiration date and people want her to evacuate. Toxic. I think she wants to play in Dallas w/ Paige and Azzi.”

Angel Reese missed time earlier this season with a back issue, but Whitlock dismissed it entirely, instead suggesting her real motive was to eventually link up with Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd, one of the top prospects in next year’s draft.
“I’m Not Settling”: Angel Reese Sends Strong Message on Sky’s Future
Chicago has just 10 wins with four games left, marking a second straight year near the bottom of the standings. Reese’s comments, first published in the Chicago Tribune, made her stance clear: she doesn’t want to run it back with the same group.

“I’m not settling for the same s*** we did this year,” she said. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.”
She added that she’s even willing to recruit. “I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do. … We can’t settle for what we have this year.”
Reese has also said she and Kamilla Cardoso are the only players Chicago should keep moving forward. While she insisted she’d like to stay long-term, she left the door open. “If things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.”
Locked into a four-year deal, Reese can’t walk away on her own. But with her candor—and Whitlock fanning the flames—the Sky head into the offseason facing more questions than answers.
