Angel Reese has been dominant in some instances this season, showing why she deserves the honor of being one of the next faces of the WNBA. However, supporter Gilbert Arenas sees something more for the “Bayou Barbie,” believing her chances of winning the MVP is far from impossible.

Speaking on a recent episode of “Gil’s Arena,” Arenas explained Reese’s growing game, highlighting her standout skills. He also emphasized that everyone is watching the early stages of her career, far from her prime.
“This is the one thing that people don’t realize, you’re judging two sophomores. That means this is the worst that they’re gonna be in the next four or five years,” Arenas said.
“Season 4 [Angel] is going to be sitting at 22 pts & 18 rebs. If the team is winning, MVP.”

However, Arenas was also clear that Angel Reese’s team, the Chicago Sky, also needs to work on utilizing their star forward more.
“When you’re talking about she can’t make layups today, she’s gonna get better at layups and rebounding. Like she’s an amateur rebounder. She’s not the elite yet in her mind. So there’s gonna be a year where she’s sitting at 19 and 19, 20 and 20,” Arenas added.
“That could be next season, damn near for sure, season four. Season four, she’s gonna be sitting at 22 and 18. If the team is winning, MVP. That’s what’s going to look like because she’s ultra dominant in one stat.”

Angel Reese had long mastered the art of rebounding. In her rookie season, she averaged 13.1 boards. Now, she averages 12.5, including ten consecutive double-digit rebounds. Like any other rising star, Reese also struggles, particularly with her efficiency, which leads trolls to coin the term “mebounds” to her, or getting her own missed shots in the paint.
Angel Reese Gets NSFW Defense From Sheryl Swoops On Rebounds Stat-Padding Accusations
While critics have mocked Angel Reese‘s relentless rebounding, WNBA legend and “Gil’s Arena” co-host Sheryl Swoopes has no patience for it. Swoopes bluntly pointed the finger at opposing defenses.
“But people want to talk about, ‘Well, a lot of her rebounds are her own misses.’ Well, box her a– out! Aren’t you taught to follow your shot and get your rebound? If you don’t want her to get her own rebound, box her out.”

Swoopes also shut down the noise around Angel Reese’s scoring expectations, pointing out she’s not a 30-point machine built to glide through set plays. The problem, she argued, isn’t effort or skill—it’s fans demanding the wrong things from the wrong kind of player.
