Angel Reese Faces Backlash Over Therapist Comment
Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese drew criticism after telling listeners on her podcast, “Unapologetically Angel,” that traditional therapists are unlikely to truly understand the experiences of celebrities and may simply tell clients what they want to hear, a comment that prompted a swift response from her guest and social-media users alike.

She said the remarks in a talk with the rapper Monaleo, mentioning that fame fuels the separation between celebrities and most mental health practitioners, and whether therapy is useful for folks at her status.
“No one will understand what we go through [as celebrities],” Reese said. “You talking to a therapist and paying a therapist and telling them your problems, they’re gonna tell you what you want to hear. But they’re not really gonna ever understand, especially at the level we’re at.”
Monaleo challenged Reese’s opinion in the episode, encouraging Reese to give therapy a try before making a decision to rule if out, and asserting that therapists can offer some valuable analysis and tools at times to help someone “connect the dots.” for her.
Social-media users were swift to respond, with many questioning Reese’s authority on the matter and reminding her of the problematic position she took so strongly in public because she has never engaged with therapy, while others offered support for the position that not every therapist will be the right fit for every person.
Angel Reese, so far, has not made a follow-up comment on the matter following the social media backlash.
