Angel Reese is only in her second season in the WNBA through the Chicago Sky but it is undeniable that she has the most media mileage among her teammates. She is in the spotlight the most and her words can be put under the microscope, especially her latest one about her teammates.

The 2024 seventh overall pick recently commented that her team, currently 10-30 in to the season and poised to meet the playoffs again, lack superstar that can get them to the next level. She specifically mentioned Rachel Banham and Hailey Van Lith who she claimed can’t be great back up and said that Courtney Vandersloot might not have enough to guide them.
She apologized on Wednesday for the comments and said acknowledged where she went wrong with her choice of words
“I don’t think I’m frustrated, I’m probably am frustrated at myself right now,” she told reporters after their win over Connecticut Sun.

“I think the language is taken out of context and I really didn’t intentionally mean to put down my teammates. I want to apologize to my teammates, which I already have about the article.”

Repots from Front Office Sports reported that her teammates were unhappy with her words and that they are planning a team meeting soon.
Angel Reese’s future with Sky
Reese is the Sky’s top scorer and rebounder with 14.6 and 12.6 per game. However, her recent comments might outweigh her contributions to the team.
FOS’ Annie Costabile said Chicago are “unhappy with the direct attacks” coming from their star and that “Reese’s future in Chicago may be irreparable following the situation.”
Reese herself also hinted about her future amidst the frustration she’s having with their season.

“I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me,” Reese told the Chicago Tribune.
“But while I am here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.”
