There’s no denying that playing professional sports at any level – in whatever country or games – requires an elite level of sacrifice and dedication. Nonetheless, fans and athletes sometimes contrast the difficulty of becoming a pro in different sports, given the same athlete.
Here was the construct Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards found himself during an online interview. While Edwards is free to choose himself over any other player – in any sport – fans also have the right to air their opinions on his self-evaluation.
Fans Got Talking After Anthony Edwards Pitches Self Over Justin Jefferson’s Football Potential

Anthony Edwards sparked a flurry of online reactions after saying he could outplay NFL star Justin Jefferson on a football field. The former overall No. 1 NBA draft pick is seeing picking himself picked over the legendary footballer in a viral online interview-cum-game session
For many fans, the basketball star’s claims might be outrageous. However, fans who are familiar with Edwards’ history know about his penchant for the football field.
In a 2025 ESPN promo video for a cover story, Edwards and Jefferson recreated the iconic photo of former Wolves and Vikings legends Kevin Garnett and Randy Moss. In the clip, Edwards and Jefferson were seen debating which sport was more difficult: basketball or football.
“I think (football) is easier,” the basketball star told Jefferson. “Football players can’t go play basketball.”
“You crazy,” Jefferson responded.
Edwards finished the thought by announcing potential plans to continue his career on the football field – if he wins an NBA championship in the next 3-4 years.
Edwards played football growing up as a running back, quarterback, and cornerback before deciding to concentrate on basketball. Yet, many fans still wouldn’t give him a chance against Jefferson.

@DP2Nice reacts: “Ant just be talking cuz he knows how lol”
While Edwards has said he felt he could’ve gone to the NFL had he stuck with the sport, it’s hard to argue with the outcomes of his decision. He eventually led the Timberwolves to their first Western Conference finals appearance in 20 years this past season, among other feats. Yet, like Oliver Twist, Edwards wants some victories, even in another sport.
