The Atlanta Hawks recorded a 117-112 win over the Brooklyn Nets yesterday, but it came with a cost, as they suffered a huge injury blow to one of their stars.

Trae Young hurt his knee when Atlanta Hawks center Mouhamed Gueye fell into the side of his leg during an inbounds play in the first period. The four-time NBA All-Star didn’t return to the game and finished with six points on 2-for-4 shooting from the field.

“I think the most important thing is that it is not his ACL,” Atlanta Hawks head coach Quin Snyder said about Young via Brad Rowland on X (formerly known as Twitter). “He’s going to get an MRI tonight or tomorrow and make a determination from there.

“He didn’t want to come out of the game. He’s such a competitor. He takes a lot of pride in being available. There’s been a lot of times in the time that we’ve been together where he’s banged up and he goes out and plays, and you saw that tonight, too,” he added.

With Trae Young on the sidelines, the Atlanta Hawks played Luke Kennard more minutes than usual, and the veteran sharpshooter repaid their trust. Kennard contributed 17 points and four three-pointers on 5-for-8 shooting from the field in 28 minutes off the bench.

“I thought he was aggressive. I think people sometimes forget that he’s not just a shooter, but we do need him to shoot because that sets up other parts of his game. Obviously, he played very well. He’s a really skilled basketball player,” Snyder said about Kennard.

In last night’s road win, the Atlanta Hawks also had meaningful contributions from Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Kristaps Porzingis, and Onyeka Okongwu, who had 23, 18, 14, and 12 points, respectively.
