Bob Cousy was delighted after he saw the Boston Celtics win Banner No. 18 last month to break their 16-year title drought, and he was given the 2008 and 2024 NBA championship trophies by Wyc Grousbeck, who visited him at his home on Tuesday.

The 95-year-old and the Boston Celtics go way back, as he’s the only player remaining from their first title-winning season in 1957. He will turn 96 on August 9.
In all of his 13 seasons with the Boston Celtics, Bob Cousy was an NBA All-Star. The six-time NBA champion was a member of the All-NBA First Team 10 times and the All-NBA Second Team twice and was the league’s assists leader from 1953 to 1960.

Of course, the Boston Celtics retired Cousy’s No. 14 jersey, and he joined Bill Russell, George Mikan, and Bob Pettit as the only players selected in the 25th, 30th, 50th, and 75th NBA anniversary teams.
After finishing his NBA career as a player, Bob Cousy became a color commentator for Boston for 35 years, and he has never stopped rooting for them ever since.
Bob Cousy never doubted the Boston Celtics
Wyc Grousbeck credited Bob Cousy for giving the Boston Celtics confidence ahead of their NBA Finals matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, as the 95-year-old said it was an “easy call” picking them to win.
According to Bill Doyle of Telegram & Gazette, Cousy was “relieved” when the Mavericks won the Western Conference instead of the Minnesota Timberwolves because he thought Boston would beat them easily and he wouldn’t have to stay up until 11:30 when he watches the games.

Furthermore, Cousy said the Boston Celtics are poised to repeat next season.
“I think they have the potential to create a mini-dynasty,” Cousy said, “obviously because of their age, their motivation. Joe (Mazzulla, Celtics coach) seems to be a good coach.”
“So on paper, if I would choose who is going to be the favorite the next few years, I’d say the Celtics again,” he added.
