Boston Celtics guard Derrick White cut a downbeat figure after last night’s 119-81 Game 6 loss against the New York Knicks to end their NBA title defense.
With a hazy summer looming because of the Boston Celtics’ complicated salary cap situation, White is aware the team could look a lot different when they take the court next season.
“You’ll never get this season back. You’re never going to have the exact same team again,” White said via ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. “So obviously, there were some highs and obviously, some lows of the season, but at the moment, it’s just kind of down.”

The Boston Celtics will have a new owner. However, Bill Chisholm has yet to make his spending plans clear, especially since the team is facing a massive $500 million payroll next season if the current roster remains intact.

Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown was in disbelief after Game 6. However, the 2024 Finals MVP believes the team can bounce back next season, even without his co-star Jayson Tatum, who’s facing a long spell on the sidelines due to an Achilles tear.
“Things didn’t go our way this year, and it’s unfortunate. But we hold our head up regardless. Losing to the Knicks feels like death, but I was always taught there is life after death, so we’ll be ready for whatever is next. Whatever’s next in the journey, we’ll be ready for,” Brown said via ClutchPoints’ Daniel Donabedian.
“I know Boston, it looks gloomy right now, obviously with (Jayson Tatum) being out, and us ending the year, but it’s a lot to look forward to. I want the city to feel excited about that. This is not the end. I’m looking forward to what’s next,” he added.
