Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said he doesn’t mind letting Jaylen Brown take the final shot during their 104-103 road defeat against the Detroit Pistons on Monday night.
With the Boston Celtics down by one, Sam Hauser inbounded the basketball to Brown, who went right and took a fadeaway midrange jumper that went long. The one-time NBA champion was the team’s leading scorer with 32 points (game-high) and 11 rebounds on 11-for-28 shooting from the field and 8-for-10 shooting from the free throw line across 39 minutes of action.
“I’m gonna give like the commentating one, like the radio one? Oh ok, I mean, he got a live catch. It was a great move. It’s a shot that he makes and just didn’t go down, so it was great execution. I’ll take that shot 100 times out of 100,” Mazzulla said of Brown’s final shot via Celtics on CLNS.
“It felt good. I mean, my legs are a little heavy, but I gotta make a play for my team at the end, so do it,” Brown stated. “You got to make a play for your team at the end. Had some opportunities, didn’t convert. Still got some room to grow. That’s what the regular season is for, so we’ll get better.”

Boston Celtics News: Payton Pritchard not worried about losing season record vs. Detroit Pistons
Following Monday night’s defeat, the Boston Celtics fell to a 1-3 record against the Detroit Pistons this season, which may leave some people worried, but not Payton Pritchard.
“I mean, it’s regular season. We lost to the Knicks last year (in playoffs), and we went 4-0, so, like, it doesn’t really matter. Just learn from it and prepare for it,” Pritchard said.
The Boston Celtics fell to 26-16 but remained second in the Eastern Conference, as the New York Knicks (25-18) are on a four-game losing streak following their 114-97 defeat against the Dallas Mavericks at Madison Square Garden.
