After taking a couple of stumbles recently, the Boston Celtics are back to their winning ways. The Celtics rebounded from consecutive losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Denver Nuggets during the start of their current road trip by taking down the Phoenix Suns and the Portland Trail Blazers last Sunday and Monday, respectively.
The 121-99 win over the Trail Blazers was not a shocker for the Boston Celtics, who should be able to take care of business all the time when up against lottery-bound teams.
What was more surprising about the Celtics’ pummeling of the Blazers, though, was the near-flawless ball movement of the team in that contest. The Celtics had 49 field goals on 34 assists. Each of the players on the Celtics’ starting unit had at least four dimes, including Peyton Pritchard, who finished with eight dimes.
The Boston Celtics’ Superior Offense Was Too Much For The Portland Trail Blazers
Despite their aggressiveness in finding the open man, the Celtics turned the ball over just three times, with no player having more than one.
Until Monday, the Boston Celtics had never had such a game ever, according to Boston Sports Info:
“First time in Celtics history that they had 34 or more assists and 3 or fewer turnovers”
The Celtics had fun dissecting and slicing through Portland’s leaky defense. Boston is averaging 26.5 assists per contest this season, 14th overall in the NBA, but they surpassed that number by a huge margin in the Blazers game. The Celtics probably wouldn’t have collected that many assists with as few turnovers as they had versus Portland if they faced another team, but there is no denying that Boston is one scary team.
The Celtics will look to stay hot when they pay the Utah Jazz a visit in Salt Lake City this Tuesday for the final leg of Boston’s trip away from Beantown.
