Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis has made headlines after his eye-opening performance in Game 1 of the NBA Finals against his former team, the Dallas Mavericks. The 7-foot-2 big man marked his return from injury with a 20-point performance off the bench to help lead the Celtics to a 107-89 victory in the series opener.
At this point, Porzingis has made it abundantly clear that he will indeed play a significant role in Boston’s quest for championship No. 18.

It was a relatively quiet night for Jaylen Brown in this one. He still finished with a team-high 22 points, but it wasn’t exactly the show-stopping performance we’ve seen from him time and time again.
After helping his side cruise to victory, Brown just had to give Porzingis his flowers:
“It was amazing. Nobody’s more proud and more excited for him than I am,” Brown said. “But we gotta get better. We gotta almost forget about it and get ready for the next one.”

Brown is obviously excited about Porzingis’ strong play, but the Celtics forward was also quick to play down whatever success his team achieved on Thursday night. Boston has the series advantage right now, but Green is clearly keeping his eyes on the prize.
The Celtics are now just three wins away from their first championship in 16 years and Brown, of all people, knows that now is not the time to be complacent.
