Former Boston Celtics star Rajon Rondo appeared as a guest on “The Draymond Green Show” on Thursday and talked about his plans to be involved in the NBA. Rondo stated that he hopes to work in the front office of an organization before joining the NBA as a coach.
The former Boston Celtics star has hinted at the possibility of being on the coaching staff. Rondo served as a guest coach at the Milwaukee Bucks’ training camp before the 2024–25 season.

The four-time All-Star for the Boston Celtics has hinted at his plans but is yet to make himself available as a head coach. In his appearance at Green’s show, Rondo addressed his future.
“1,000%,” Rondo said about his coaching plans. “And I wanna mess with the front office, too. I wanna do some internship, I’mma call Danny [Ainge] eventually, and I would love to win as both GM and a coach.”
Green is excited to have the former player as a head coach and acknowledges the intelligence that Rondo possesses. The Golden State Warriors forward suggested that the former point guard shouldn’t go through being an assistant coach and head straight to being a head coach.
“I look forward to the day you ready to make that jump,” Green said. “Don’t give me the assistant coach stuff. Don’t give me the, ‘Oh Rondo don’t have the experience, I don’t know.’ Because what they do know is Rondo is one of the greatest basketball minds to grace the NBA. He’s not looking for an assistant coach job, he’s looking for a head job. JJ [Redick] is doing it, he’s showing you that it’s possible and we know how smart Rondo is.”

Rondo appreciated the support that Green had for him and said this:
“That’s all I need, I got the blueprint just give me the pieces.”
Rondo ranks the Los Angeles Lakers championship higher than the 2008 Boston Celtics title

Rondo is one of two players who won championships for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics, two of the most storied franchises in the league. As a guest on Green’s podcast, the former Celtics star ranked the ring he won with the Lakers higher.
“You can’t compare the two honestly because in 2020, we were in the bubble so we didn’t get a parade. So I’ve only had one parade and that was the most amazing thing that’s happened to me in basketball,” Rondo said. “That type of love and reaction to see the fans, you’ve seen it this year, but to be a part of it, to get on a duck boat and go on a tour it was amazing. That’s the only opportunity I’ve got to have a parade but at that particular time I won it in 2020 my son was in the bubble with me and that made that moment a little more special winning it in 2020.” (7:05)
Rondo was instrumental in the Lakers’ 2020 championship, as his basketball IQ helped the team in their playoff journey. But he was also important to the Boston Celtics’ title in 2008.
