Breanna Stewart, New York Liberty star, has been a serious advocate for women’s basketball in the entirety of her career. Stewart, along with Napheesa Collier, who is perhaps the most accomplished player in the Minnesota Lynx, have teamed up to create the Unrivaled Basketball League.
The league focuses on 3-on-3 basketball, the first of its kind in the United States. The Unrivaled Basketball League is expected to commence in January and will be held in Miami. The main aim of the league’s launch is to allow female basketball players a chance to play in the off-season, while earning some solid moolah.
“It’s really important for players to have equity in Unrivaled, because there’s never gonna be another first. Excited to have the league about to be up and running and continue to see where we’re gonna grow so then when we look back five years from now, 10 years from now, it’ll only be bigger and better.” Stewart said.

“I think it’s obviously really important to invest in women’s sports, just knowing the way women’s basketball used to work,” Breanna Stewart continued. “You used to play W, you used to go overseas, and now kind of changing that pattern and keeping players home in a different market where we’re able to get better, have fun, make money.”
As per reports, the Unrivaled Basketball League is said to provide the highest salaries in women’s sports. Each player in the league will not only receive equity, but will also be able to earn a minimum of six figures. In comparison, players in the WNBA earn much less, with the pay capped at slightly more than $240,000.

Breanna Stewart Gets Coach Weatherspoon To Coach In Unrivaled League
Coach Teresa Weatherspoon has had a fantastic career so far in women’s basketball. The former head coach of the Chicago Sky has got some fresh bragging rights, after being chosen to coach the teams in Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier’s Unrivaled League. This will be a turning point for players who aim to learn and earn from the league during the offseason.
Weatherspoon brings a plethora of coaching experiences with her, and is considered to be one of New York Liberty’s finest players. In fact, the now-coach still holds the record for New York’s highest number of assists, along with steals. After her playing career, Weatherspoon started coaching, firstly as a developmental coach for New York Liberty and then as an assistant coach for the New Orleans Pelicans.
