Bronny James and the Los Angeles Lakers had one of the worst losses of the season on Tuesday against the San Antonio Spurs. Without LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton, the Lakers had to deal with a 136-108 loss. On the bright side, the star’s absence allowed others like James to have time on the floor.
However, the performance from LA was embarrassing. The team allowed Victor Wembanyama to have a dominant 40-point, 12-rebound game. Despite the tough loss, the Lakers have not lost hope. Following the contest, James was asked about the team’s ceiling for this season and if the entire roster can remain healthy.

Bronny James still believes that the Lakers can compete with some of the best teams in the league.
“I know our team believes that we can be contenders and make a deep playoff run. We all believe that,” James said. “Once we get healthy, it’s just gonna come down to playing hard and playing smart and winning games.”

Things aren’t so bad for James and the Lakers. They are fifth in the Western Conference with a 32-21 record, and there’s still plenty of basketball left in the 2025-26 season.
JJ Redick applauded Bronny James’ defensive performance against Victor Wembanyama
Against the Spurs, there were times when Bronny James was matched up against Wembanyama. While the Spurs star has a clear height advantage, coach JJ Redick noted that James did a good job in imposing physicality on his defensive assignment.
After the contest, Redick spoke highly of the defensive tenacity that Bronny brought.
“Well, I think the takeaway, you know, in terms of the physicality that we wanted on defense… he had two really good possessions in the first half against Wemby,” Redick said.
James played 25:22 minutes for the Lakers and finished with 12 points, three rebounds and six assists. That was the first time this season that the former USC guard scored in double digits. Bronny and the Lakers are set to play against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday before the start of the All-Star break.
