Bronny James experienced the gap between a rookie and a veteran in a funny moment, as Los Angeles Lakers star player and sharpshooter Anthony Davis gave him the classic rookie treatment.
Just because you’re the son of the great LeBron James doesn’t mean you’re excused from getting the rookie treatment. That was what Bronny James got during the Lakers’ game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
LeBron was out for the game, due to soreness on his left foot, so he was on the bench and out of his uniform. In a video, his son, Bronny, was sitting beside him when Anthony Davis approached the benches and stood in front of Bronny.
AD did not say anything (at least as can be seen in the video), but LeBron noticeably got the message. Bronny noticed, too, and he stood up and gave the seat to the nine-time NBA All-Star. LeBron found the entire wordless interaction funny as he laughed it off and AD laughed at the awkwardness of the situation, too.
Bronny James is in his rookie season with the Lakers. He made history with his father LeBron as the first father-and-son duo who got to play a regular season game in the NBA. However, Bronny also experienced criticism and backlash, with detractors often questioning his skills and ability when it comes to professional basketball.
Bronny James “Not Ready to Play for The NBA”
Former NBA player and now basketball analyst Charles Barkley has his take on the issue of Bronny and the doubt surrounding his skills and abilities. As a former league player himself, Chuck acknowledges that Bronny has the potential, but the time for him to play with the big shots just seems to be not right now.
“The kid is not ready to play in the NBA,” he said. “He should be in the G League so he can play basketball. He’s not gonna get better sitting on the bench.”
Chuck went on to say that Bronny joining the Lakers but not doing much may not serve Bronny and the Lakers well.
“I don’t think they are doing Bronny any favors,” Barkley added. “They have just handled this thing very bad. It’s a bad look for the Lakers. I really like everything LeBron has done. But it’s a bad look for him (too) in my opinion.”
Bronny James has played seven games so far but has only played an average of 2.6 minutes per game. He hasn’t done much when it comes to numbers as he only averages 0.6 points per game, 0.1 rebounds, and 0.3 assists.
