Since returning from a serious hamstring injury, Cam Thomas has come off the bench for the Brooklyn Nets in three consecutive games. Many thought he’d take the lead and start against the Houston Rockets since Michael Porter Jr. was ill, but to no avail.
Thomas had 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting during the 120-96 loss on Thursday. After the game, the Brooklyn Nets guard received plaudits from his former teammate, Kevin Durant, who thinks the team is taking him for granted.
“I feel like Cam has a bright future. It just takes somebody to believe in his talent and his skill. Scorers and guys that score the basketball at a high rate, they get taken for granted in this league a bit. We’re so used to loving defenders and playmakers and guys that can be connectors, sometimes scorers get taken for granted,” Durant said of Thomas via ClutchPoints’ Erik Slater.
“So, hopefully somebody takes a chance on Cam and gives him what he deserves and puts the ball in his hands and builds around him and lets him grow into a player… Hopefully, a team puts some trust in him,” he ended.

Brooklyn Nets News: Jordi Fernandez hints at the reason why Cam Thomas is coming off the bench
During the postgame press conference, Jordi Fernandez raved about Cam Thomas for leading the second unit in scoring. However, the Brooklyn Nets head coach clearly wants more from the 24-year-old guard on both ends of the floor.
“Good scoring punch with the minutes that he’s playing right now… Obviously, his superpower is his scoring, but once again, I need better defense, I need better playmaking,” Fernandez said of Thomas’ performance.
The reporters wanted to ask Thomas’ opinion of him coming off the bench in the past few games, but the Brooklyn Nets guard didn’t take the bait by not commenting on the matter.
