Michael Porter Jr. has become one of the top scorers for the Brooklyn Nets so far this 2025-26 campaign. The one-time NBA champion averages 19.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists on 44.2 percent shooting from the field.

With the Brooklyn Nets, Porter has the freedom to do more on offense, and the one-time NBA champion recently said that he is taking notes from Carmelo Anthony to be more effective as a shot creator.
“I feel like a lot of guys just stop working on certain things and go shoot corner threes or just work on the things that they’re going to do in the game. But for me, I kept working on a lot of different things so that, in this opportunity now, I feel like I’ll be okay. But it’ll be a learning curve,” Porter said on 7PM in Brooklyn.

“I’ve been watching a lot of Melo’s highlights. I don’t want to have to waste tons of energy every game on the perimeter, having to get by other teams’ best defenders and shoot crazy contested shots,” he continued. “So, watching the mid post work and being able, in the fourth quarter, when things get tight, to give it to me on the mid post, face up, jab, shoot over the top, or rip one dribble, pull up. I have got to get comfortable in the mid-post. So, there’s no better person to watch than Melo. I think that’s going to be big for me, for sure.”
Brooklyn Nets News: Jordi Fernandez slams the team’s “unacceptable” effort after Houston Rockets loss
The Brooklyn Nets are now 0-4 to start this season, following a 137-109 loss against the Houston Rockets yesterday, and head coach Jordi Fernandez urges the team to play with a bigger sense of urgency.

“I need consistency and urgency. And that’s got to be like something that we cannot decide if we’re doing it or not,” Fernández said via Brian Lewis of The New York Post. “It’s a matter of who we want to be, right? Giving up 42 to start, it’s not great.”
“It’s just unacceptable to take an NBA game for granted. And our guys are trying. They just don’t know how much harder and focused they can do things. And I believe they’ll keep taking those steps. A lot of it is just lack of experience,” he added.
