Michael Porter Jr. hasn’t held a basketball yet as a new member of the Brooklyn Nets but already, he got the team’s general manager feeling cautious.
Cautious not about possible injury but of controversies that may lead to league punishment after the former Denver Nuggets forward decided to become a podcast and discussed issues beyond his knowledge.

MPJ, who joined the Nets over the summer in a trade that got his former team Cameron Johnson, said that it would hurt him if ever he has a “thot daughter” or a “gay son”. He also mourned the death of controversial right politics advocate Charlie Kir.
He also targeted the WNBA saying a McDonald’s All-American boys’ team is capable of beating any professional women’s basketball squad.
“If the WNBA All-Star team, if the Olympic team played the McDonald’s All-American high school players…in high school, when I was in high school, we were grown men, pretty much,” he said.
“If we play the WNBA All-Star team, that, no disrespect, bro. No disrespect, bro. I’m not even gonna say it.”

The nature of this case should not be new to MPJ as his former teammate and three-time MVP Nikola Jokic was once punished for saying homophobic remarks in public.
Michael Porter Jr. is allowed to learn his ways
Nets GM Sean Marks said they already talked to MPJ about the matter although he will not divulge what went on in the discussion.
“Those conversations that myself and a group have had with Michael will remain internal,” general manager Sean Marks said. “I think this is, as Jordi [Fernández] alluded to, a new environment for him, a new market, new expectations, new roles, both on the court and in the locker room for him.”

Sean Marks on the Nets organization’s response to Michael Porter Jr.’s controversial media tour this summer:

He suggested that the 2023 champion might tone down now after learning about the team’s stance on the issues he discussed.
So, I think he’s finding his way. I think we’ll basically leave it at that. He knows where the organization stands on certain issues and topics, and this market is a little different from where he was.”
