Shouting on the sidelines is just among the jobs of an NBA head coach and Milwaukee Bucks coach is just one of those very fiery when it comes to managing his team.
It’s a running joke in the NBA community that he has a hoarse voice but turns out, it is a health issue.
Rivers has revealed that he is facing a health scare concerning his throat and is being compelled by his doctor to have it checked.
“I thought I was tired. When I’m tired, it definitely affects me, for sure,” said Rivers during Thursday practice ahead of their NBA Cup semis match with the Atlanta Hawks.
He is not leaving it to luck. He said he needs to his doctor soon.
“It’s funny. My throat guy called me and said, it’s time for evaluation,” Rivers said.
His throat problem is actually something he has been dealing with for more than a decade now.
I had surgery when I was with the Celtics. They found a polyp and they had to do surgery on my vocal cord, which is for a coach very dangerous, because one bad move … you have no voice. Our players would loooove that.
Doc Rivers can still joke around
Fans hope that Rivers’ health problem not reach a very concerning stage.
However, based on the coach’s demeanor during practice, fans can calm down. He can still joke around.
Subject of his punchline is his own team who he said is the oldest in the NBA Cup.
I mean, we’re gonna being our wheelchairs to the cup because we have these three young teams. You know, everybody’s, Atlanta is young. Oklahoma is young. Houston is young. Then here comes the old Milwaukee Bucks wheeling in. That’s what we are gonna be, you know. We’re gonna just wheel in our wheelchairs and come in on our canes and see if we can just play some basketball. That’s what we are gonna do.
The vibe in Milwaukee is great right now unlike in the past month. Rivers can rest both mentally and physically.
The team could reach a milestone on Saturday in case they win against the Hawks and eventually win the second NBA Cup.
