Reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark is a lot like Golden Warriors star Steph Curry. Or at least, that is what returning New York Liberty star Marine Johannes thinks.

New York Liberty guard Marine Johannes is returning to the WNBA and one of the new faces she may face would be Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. With Johannes not in the league during Clark’s rookie season in 2024, this would be the first time that she would encounter her inside the court.

With that said, Johannes expressed high praise for Clark. During an interview with San Antonio Spurs legend Tony Parker, Johannes said she believes Caitlin Clark can revolutionize women’;s basketball like what Stephen Curry did to the NBA.

“A bit like Stephen Curry,” Johannes said in French. “I think that she and Paige Bueckers will be the future of the WNBA and women’s basketball. What she’s doing with her team is huge, everybody’s talking about it.”

“When the two of them will come to the league, I think it will evolve in the media, it’ll be cool.”

tony parker: “for a girl in college bball, i never saw as much excitement and media attention as for caitlin clark…she really can revolutionize women’s bball?”

Marine Johannes was drafted by the New York Liberty in 2019. However, her WNBA journey has been marked by interruptions due to her commitments to international teams and the challenges of balancing schedules. Johannes missed the 2021 and 2022 seasons because of obligations to her French club and national team, as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. After a hiatus due to her international commitments and other factors, she returned in 2023 and played that season as well.

Her decision to leave temporarily was influenced by the complexities of WNBA contracts and the limited financial incentives compared to her opportunities in Europe. In France, she played for LDLC Lyon ASVEL Féminin.

Caitlin Clark Gets Praise From New Fever Teammate

In a recent interview, new Indiana Fever roster member Sophie Cunningham gave praise for Caitlin Clark, particularly with her influence not only in the league but in women;s basketball overall.

“She’s just had a lot of pressure on her shoulders,” Cunningham said of Clark. “No one’s walked in her footsteps, so it’s really easy to judge and just say things. At the end of the day, we just all need to empower each other and be there for each other.”

“She’s done a lot, and that rookie class, to bring attention to our league, and it’s needed. That’s what we’ve always wanted. why would we not embrace them and make sure they’re good?”
