Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark may see a parallel in her story to the story of LeBron James, at least in one way.
In her appearance as the guest at the “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman” on streaming platform Netflix, Caitlin Clark was asked whose story she thinks resembles hers the most.
At first, Clark was hesitant to answer, citing that comparison is not her cup of tea.
“I don’t want to compare myself to anybody else,” Clark said. “I don’t want that.”
Eventually, the Fever star gave in and chose Los Angeles Lakers veteran LeBron James and his story of struggling from the bottom to his way up.
“I hate saying this, ’cause LeBron is, like, the greatest basketball player of all time,” Clark told Letterman. “He had all these expectations coming out of high school to be the greatest player ever, and obviously, that’s a lot to take on your shoulders.”
“He’s obviously lived up to it, and he’s still one of the best players, if not the best player in the world. It’s incredible what he’s done for the game of basketball.”

Caitlin Clark entered the WNBA with immense expectations, carrying the weight of her record-breaking college career at Iowa. As the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, she was seen as a transformative player for the league.

Clark herself embraced these expectations, stating her goal to become one of the best players in the world. She acknowledged the challenges of transitioning to the professional level but expressed confidence in her preparation and work ethic.
Caitlin Clark Gets Comparison to American Golf Legend
Despite Caitlin Clark herself not being fond of comparisons, analysts are always up and about elevating her to the same heights as other great athletes before her. In a recent episode of his program “Fearless,” Jason Whitlock likened Clark to golf legend Tiger Woods.
“The drop off from the last two years and particularly last year speaks to just what an incredible force,” Whitlock said, talking about the drop in NCAA ratings after Clark’s departure. “And this is why I keep saying Caitlin Clark is the most popular athlete in all of the American sports. She’s a force of nature. I think these ratings prove it she is. She drives more TV ratings than anybody.”
“She’s the Tiger Woods of women’s basketball.”

During her rookie season at the WNBA, Caitlin Clark was unanimously named the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, a spot on the All-WNBA First Team, and was recognized with the WNBA Peak Performer Award for leading the league in assists, averaging 8.4 per game.
