Many believe that Caitlin Clark is the face of the WNBA. Her teammates agree, and a significant number of WNBA players agree as well. The league has also witnessed a rise in viewership, and many credit the Fever player for her contribution.
However, despite her absence for more of the last season, the WNBA still witnessed a rise in viewership. The league saw a jump from five to six percent on a per-game average. All this without Caitlin Clark.

Clark is not the only top player in the league, as A’ja Wilson has been a name that can add to the debate. Wilson broke barriers and crossed several milestones last season. She became the 2025 TIME Athlete of the Year. Journalist Sean Gregory shared Wilson’s interview in which she never hesitated to take a shot at Caitlin Clark. Wilson shed light on the increase in viewership despite the absence of Clark.
“Sometimes you need a proof in the pudding. The biggest thing for us, and why I was so happy, is that we continue to rise to the occasion. This was just a matter of time for us to really bloom and blossom. Because we have been invested in each other and our craft for a very long time. … It was just like, ‘They’re going to pay attention,” Wilson said.
A’Ja Wilson Continues To Outshine Caitlin Clark
Wilson’s numbers and achievements are way ahead of Clark. While Caitlin Clark might have brought fame, Wilson’s achievements are incredible. During her interview, Wilson highlighted her achievements. While she never directly took a shot at Clark, Wilson certainly has the numbers to back her.

“When you’ve collected everything, that’s Thanos. And this year, I collected everything. I don’t really talk much sh-t. I mean crap. I kind of let my game do it. This was my biggest moment of doing it, because no one’s ever done what I’ve done. And I think people really needed to understand that.” Wilson continued.
Caitlin Clark won the TIME Athlete of the Year Award last year, but this year it was Wilson. The Aces star had one of the best years in her career, and many argue that Wilson is the GOAT of the WNBA.
