While Caitlin Clark remains sidelined due to her groin injury, her impact remains; this time, it’s on the Indiana Fever. Clark’s team again made it clear who’s the boss, defeating the Phoenix Mercury, 107-101, on Wednesday, an act that even made Jason Whitlock declare that Clark might not be what the Fever needs, but is needed by the whole WNBA.

Clark has been absent for a long time, but the Fever remains alive and going. The victory against the Mercury has extended their three-game winning skid. And Whitlock knows this. On X/Twitter, the “Fearless” show host claimed Clark remains a key piece to the Fever’s championship hopes, but he also stressed what she needs to do and adapt to achieve it.
“Clark can save the WNBA,” Whitlock wrote. “She can help the Fever win a title. There’s a difference. Fever don’t need a savior. WNBA does.”

“Great victory for my Fever,” Whitlock added on another post. “I love Caitlin Clark. She’s great. I hope she’s watching and learning. Poorly officiated game. No excessive whining. Mitchell off night. Doesn’t force offense. Defense powers offense. Fever can win title this year if Caitlin tweaks her approach.”

Averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.8 assists this season, Caitlin Clark unfortunately didn’t play much (missed 14 games) due to a streak of injuries, coupled with her shooting slumps and heated clashes. While fans pegged Clark as the Fever’s lifeline, the team told a different story. With Boston steady in the paint, Mitchell catching fire, and McDonald pushing the pace, Indiana surged to 15–12—good enough for sixth in the league.
However, without Caitlin Clark, the WNBA isn’t where it is today. In her rookie year, she brought massive viewership and ticket sales that the league had never faced before, eventually also increasing their revenue.
Caitlin Clark’s teammate defends star guard’s superstardom
Caitlin Clark’s rapid rise hasn’t come without resistance—but her Indiana Fever teammate Sophie Cunningham isn’t letting the noise slide. In the debut episode of her podcast Show Me Something, Cunningham blasted critics who downplay Clark’s place in the WNBA’s future.
“It literally pisses me off when people are like, ‘She’s not the face of the league,'” Cunningham said. “You’re literally dumb as f***.”

While she credited other stars for carrying the league, Cunningham emphasized that Caitlin Clark’s influence is singular. She argued that Clark isn’t just a rising phenom—she’s a transformative figure in the WNBA. Without her, the league’s current momentum simply wouldn’t exist.
