“But I Was Told…”: Caitlin Clark Faces Subtle Jab From WNBA Reporter During League’s Historic Finals Milestone

Caitlin Clark is nowhere to be seen in the WNBA Finals after her Indiana Fever got chucked from the tournament a couple of weeks back. Now, it is down to either the Las Vegas Aces or the Phoenix Mercury to win the championship, something that very few analysts and sports pundits saw coming before the season kicked off.

A day earlier, the WNBA reported that Game 1 of this year’s finals between the Aces and the Mercury saw the highest viewership in the history of the league. Sports reporter Natalie Esquire, could not help but take a small potshot at Caitlin Clark as a reaction to the stats shared by WNBA Communications.

“Game 1 of the 2025 WNBA Finals is now the most-watched Game 1 of the WNBA Finals in 28 years, averaging 1.9 million viewers and peaking at 2.5 million viewers! It also marks the most-watched WNBA Finals Game 1 in a series format.” WNBA Communications tweeted from their X account.

“But I was told…(yawning emoji, face with hand over mouth emoji)” Natalie Esquire tweeted in response.

The point that Esquire is trying to make is that Caitlin Clark has often been credited for raking in plenty of viewers in the WNBA. Ever since she made her debut in the league last season, the WNBA saw a major uptick in ticket sales and viewership.

While other players like Angel Reese and Cameron Brink have also been responsible, Clark has received the majority of credit, something that has been called out constantly. With the WNBA’s latest tweet, it seems like the presence of Clark is absolutely not necessary for viewers to watch women’s basketball.

Caitlin Clark Promotes Taylor Swift Album At Latest Press Meet

On another note, Caitlin Clark proved that she is a through and through Swiftie in a recent press meet. Last Thursday, Clark spoke to reporters and ended her press conference by promoting her idol’s latest album.

‘The Life of a Showgirl’ is Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album and dropped last Friday. There were massive expectations for the album from Swifties, but many were left sorely disappointed by the songs and the lyrics. Many have been calling the album pretty bland, while others are blaming Swift’s fiance Travis Kelce, for being such a horrible muse. Nevertheless, album sales are going pretty strong, with the negative publicity earning Swift plenty of dollars all the way.
