When a legendary national athlete meets a national superstar starting her legend, respect is given around like it’s in oversupply. In this case, Caitlin Clark met World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Briana Scurry.

On one side, we have Briana Scurry. One of the critical figures who helped put women’s soccer on the map for America and put America’s mark on the women’s world stage. And out of sheer admiration, she said “Oh my god, Caitlin, pleasure to meet you. You’re an amazing player. It’s an honor to meet you, and I’m hoping you get well soon. I can’t wait to see you back out there again. You’re fantastic,”

On the other side, the recipient of that compliment is Caitlin Clark. An up-and-coming talent bringing the WNBA to heights that it may have yet to reach, despite the troubled and rocky path. But we all know who she is by this point because of how she draws to the crowd, even while sidelined.

The real winner are the fans, who loved the exchange. On the outside, it looks like an exchange of pleasantries. But on the inside, it was a symbol of recognition. Basketball shakes hands with soccer. And an epic realization that Caitlin Clark is already transcending beyond basketball.

Considering the number of talents that the WNBA is starting to receive this season, and possibly in the coming ones, it is a huge asset to still be turning heads despite the lack of action. Showing that Caitlin Clark‘s influence has already leaked over into other sports cultures.

It might not be worldwide viral yet, but it has made a dent with the attention social media has poured into it. Women’s sports need to work together to bring about more people involved, and to see female athletes from different generations publicly supporting one another is already such a treat.

“@IndianaFever Wow, someone with actual respect for CC!” wrote user @GilliamRobby on X. Another fan, @LuisMSoto4, added, “@IndianaFever And this ladies and gentlemen is what it’s all about [heart emoji].”

“You’re an amazing player, it’s an honor to meet you.”
