Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark joined her teammates in celebrating the closing not only of their 2025 season, but also a milestone season for friend and teammate Sophie Cunningham.
In a post on Instagram, Sophei Cunningham celebrated her Year 7 with the WNBA, though most of it she spent with the team that drafted her, the Phoenix Mercury. Under the post, her teammates, including Caitlin Clark, joined in on the celebration with her.

“15 new friends, a couple fines (& fights), a new tooth, a new knee, and a happy heart,” Cunningham wrote. “Year 7 is one for the books.”
In the comments, Clark commented with a short quip that hinted at a strong focus on the future.
“Time to run it back,” Clark commented.

This season, both Sophie Cunningham and Caitlin Clark had injuries and were both ruled out for the season early. As a result, they were unable to be available when the Fever secured the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Fever made it to the semifinals and almost dethroned the Las Vegas Aces in Game 5, but eventually lost the series.
Caitlin Clark Speaks Out for Stronger, “Great Leadership” for WNBA
Caitlin Clark, who has not spoken with Commissioner Cathy Engelbert about the disputed remarks Collier reported, framed her comments as a call for accountability rather than a direct attack, emphasizing the need for constructive direction as the league navigates growing player unrest.

Clark’s comments come amid a growing chorus of complaints by players around officiating, player safety and the value the league places on their athletes, all of which are heightened ahead of collective bargaining, and raise the threat of a work stoppage.
Teammate Sophie Cunningham has openly re-stated criticism of Engelbert, while Collier’s exit interview, where she claims to have received patronizing comments from the commissioner, have deepened the divide among players and the league.
Clark’s public position is one that looks towards the leadership, while also signaling agreement with player concerns. In other words, she is taking the side of some other prominent players calling for change, yet is not back-channeling divisive terms. This could significantly shape the trajectory of negotiations and public sentiment, as the WNBA finds itself among unprecedented popularity, yet increasing internal pressures.

For the 2025 season, Caitlin Clark averaged 16.5 points per game, 8.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.62 steals. She played for only 13 games for the entirety of the season, and was eventually ruled out of the season before the Fever clinched a spot at the playoffs.
