Caitlin Clark has never hidden her playful side around teammates, and she showed it again after being fined $200 for her social media jab at referees following the Indiana Fever’s win over the Las Vegas Aces.
On Monday, Kelsey Mitchell brought up that lighter side of Clark during an ESPN appearance after her standout Game 1 performance.

Asked about the fine, Mitchell brushed it off with a smile. “I’m pretty sure somebody took care of it for her,” Mitchell said. “I love it because, as much people don’t know this about Caitlin, she has an unbelievable like funny sense of humor.”
For Mitchell, Clark’s post wasn’t about crossing a line but about rallying the locker room.
“And I think that tweet was a tweet, but you just have to know CC to know that it’s nothing but just love coming from that kid and her energy and her effort to just kind of like support our team is just her way of doing it,” she added. [Timestamp 6:20]
Clark remains sidelined with Sophie Cunningham, Chloe Bibby, Aari McDonald, and Sydney Colson, but her influence is everywhere. Beyond her impact on the court, Clark’s arrival has brought record crowds and new attention to the Fever. Even in street clothes, she continues to set the tone. In Game 1, Mitchell carried that energy, pouring in a game-high 34 points on 52% shooting to lead Indiana to a crucial win and a step closer to the Finals.
“I Love The Teammate And Person In Her”: Caitlin Clark Transforms Fever As Kelsey Mitchell Highlights Her Impact
Since being drafted No. 1 overall in 2024, Caitlin Clark has lifted the Fever’s profile and raised the league’s visibility.

Now, Mitchell says her appreciation goes beyond the highlight reels. Ahead of Game 2 against Las Vegas, she reflected on Clark’s influence. “As a friend and a player, you grow to appreciate her because certain doors have opened because she’s come to the Fever,” Mitchell said. “You have to respect that and I love the teammate and person in her because she’s accepted it with so much grace and even welcomed us with open arms to make this thing happen.”
Clark has reshaped Indiana into a contender in just two seasons. Last year ended with a quick playoff exit, but this run feels different. With Mitchell stepping into the spotlight and Clark’s leadership still shaping the team culture, the Fever look closer than ever to chasing a championship.
