TIME Magazine recently named Caitlin Clark as its 2024 Athlete of the Year. The Indiana Fever star and women’s basketball icon attended the magazine’s year-end “A Year in TIME” celebration that honored the personalities that made an impact this year.
Clark was seen wearing a stylish black dress that highlighted her figure with its low-cut front and back. She had her hair styled in a formal bun. She also posed for some pictures holding a copy of the magazine issue that featured her as the cover.

Among other notable figures in the event was musician Elton John, who was named Icon of the Year, as well as AMD head honcho Lisa Su, who was named CEO of the Year.
Caitlin Clark is the second female sportsperson to receive the Athlete of the Year award after gymnast and Olympian Simone Biles, and also the second basketball player after LeBron James.
Caitlin Clark talks about mastering ‘blocking out the noise’
While she has generally received the adulation of legions of fans and supporters of women’s basketball, Caitlin Clark has also been faced with skepticism. However, it seems she has been able to navigate through all the negativity and ignore her naysayers.
“I have a great skill of just blocking it out. I don’t care what people say about me,” said Clark in her TIME feature, noting that most of the hate comes from those who are not even longtime WNBA fans.
“A lot of people that wanted to have opinions on what was happening probably didn’t even watch half the games that they were trying to have a take on and hadn’t supported the W for a really long time,” Clark said.

“I tell people I feel like the most controversial person,” the Fever star added. “But I am not. It’s just because of all the storylines that surround me. I literally try to live and treat everybody in the same exact respectful, kind way. It just confuses me at times.”
Caitlin Clark had a phenomenal rookie season in the WNBA, setting league records for assists and three-point shots and becoming the Rookie of the Year and a part of the All-WNBA First Team. She also had an opportunity to play in the All-Star game as part of Team WNBA and defeat Team USA. Her presence in some of the games caused a significant boost in the league’s viewership, with 22 regular-season games reaching over a million views, 19 of which featured her.
