    “I Want To Win For Her”: Caitlin Clark Vows Fever Championship Before Dewanna Bonner’s Retirement

    Caitlin Clark is only sprinting into her second year at the WNBA, but one thing she has her eyes firmly set on is a championship. Recently, Clark revealed one teammate she would particularly like to win a championship for.

    In a recent interview, Caitlin Clark expressed her desire to win a championship, particularly for veteran teammate DeWanna Bonner, who has spent more than a decade in the WNBA by now.

    “She’s such a selfless leader,” Clark said. “She’s here to win. She says that, but she really means it,” Clark said of Bonner. “DB’s been tremendous, not only as a leader, she’s a tremendous basketball player, too. She’s won championships. She knows what it is.”

    “For me as a second-year point guard, I want to win for her. This is the end of her career, she deserves it.”

    DeWanna Bonner has been playing in the WNBA for 16 seasons, with her career starting in 2009 when she was drafted 5th overall by the Phoenix Mercury. She spent 10 seasons with Phoenix, winning two WNBA championships in 2009 and 2014 before being traded to the Connecticut Sun in 2020.

    Bonner has won two WNBA championships, both with the Phoenix Mercury in 2009 and 2014. After five seasons with the Sun, Bonner signed with the Indiana Fever in 2025, bringing her veteran leadership to a young and talented roster.

    Throughout her career, Bonner has earned numerous accolades, including six WNBA All-Star selections (2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024) and three WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year awards (2009, 2010, 2011). She was named to the All-WNBA First Team in 2015 and the All-WNBA Second Team in 2020.

    Caitlin Clark herself came close to having her first WNBA championship in the same year as her rookie year. During her rookie season, the Fever. Despite their progress, the Fever were eliminated in the first round after a hard-fought 81-87 loss to the Connecticut Sun in Game 2.

    Caitlin Clark gets Praise From DeWanna Bonner

    In the same press event, DeWanna Bonner praised Caitlin Clark for the things she has done for the team.

    “She’s (Caitlin Clark) such a dynamic player,” Bonner said. “She does a lot for this team. I think we understand that so everybody here just wants to make her life easier. The relationship is going great, I love C.”

    Acquiring DeWanna Bonner as a free agent has been part of the Fever’s efforts of bolstering their roster around their current star players like Caitlin Clark, hoping to build a championship contender team for the 2025 season.
