Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark recently announced that she has played her last game for the 2025 season, which sent waves of reactions and disappointment from fans and analysts alike.
In a post on X, analyst and critic Jason Whitlock made a bold prediction that the season-ending announcement of Caitlin Clark is equivalent to the WNBA “dying.” he also called the fate of the Fever star “the biggest fumble in sports history.”

“WNBA, you’re dead,” he said. “The league pretty much blew its opportunity this year, and tonight, when Caitlin Clark announced she was not returning this season, I just sat there shaking my head. They had a chance to elevate themselves, but instead, they disappointed an entire new fan base.”

Caitlin Clark admitted that “disappointed isn’t a big enough word” to capture her feelings, but took solace in the outpouring of fan support. She thanked Fever faithful for continuing to “show up for me, and for the Fever,” crediting their energy with keeping the team buoyed through a challenging stretch.
Colin Cowherd Calls Caitlin Clark “The League”
Fox Sports 1’s Colin Cowherd admitted during a recent edition of The Herd that his interest in the WNBA has waned following Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark’s groin injury, which sidelined her after July 15.

Cowherd said he once led his show with Fever coverage “six times” last summer, but hasn’t mentioned the league this year because Clark hasn’t been on the court. The injury, he suggested, coincided with a noticeable drop in viewership for the WNBA, though he acknowledged he hadn’t consulted the actual ratings.
Speaking candidly about the media’s divided approach to women’s basketball, Cowherd contrasted those he called “very pro-WNBA, to a fault” with his own more skeptical stance. He confessed he hasn’t watched a single WNBA game since Clark went down and argued that her absence left a void even among casual fans.
“Anyone who wants to argue this, you’re off your rocker. Caitlin Clark is the league,” Cowherd added. “I don’t know what the ratings are. I haven’t read them. But I know last year with Caitlin Clark, if the game was on, I would drive on, making it a point, ‘Hey, when’s that game on?’”

Caitlin Clark ended her 2025 season with only 13 games played and averaged 16.5 points per game, 8.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.6 steals. She shot 36.7% from the field and 27.9% from beyond the arc.
