Caitlin Clark’s TIME magazine interview last December has earned the wrath of podcaster Patrick Bet-David. In one of his recent podcast episodes, Bet-David called out Clark’s comments about ‘white privilege’ in her interview with TIME magazine which had crowned her ‘Athlete of the Year’.
The 46-year-old podcaster who covers numerous topics from celebrity gossip to current events, also went on to admit that he was originally a fan of the basketball superstar, but lost complete interest in her after her comments in the interview. Apparently, he was excited to take his daughters to watch one of his games, but changed his mind.
“I have no interest watching her now after the comments that she made, zero interest in watching her,” Patrick Bet-David said on his podcast recently.
Apart from condemning Caitlin Clark for her comments on the privilege that she has received as a white person, Patrick Bet-David also discussed the relationship between the NBA and the WNBA. According to Bet-David, the WNBA is definitely running on a loss, and the NBA is simply sponsoring the women’s league as a marketing tool.
The WNBA’s viewership and popularity shot up incredibly since the previous season, mainly because of newbies like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Cameron Brink, and others, who attracted more people to the seats. In fact, Clark was almost single-handedly responsible for selling out Indiana Fever tickets. Meanwhile, the NBA’s viewership and ratings have taken a massive hit in recent years.

Caitlin Clark’s ‘White Privilege’ Comments Got Mixed Reactions
The comments that Patrick Bet-David was referring to were mentioned by Caitlin Clark in an interview with TIME magazine. Clark confessed that she has been at the receiving end of privilege and opportunities because of her skin color and that the league and the masses need to acknowledge the fact that the WNBA has been built and promoted by many talented black women who might not get the same appreciation as she does.
“I want to say I’ve earned every single thing, but as a white person, there is privilege. A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been black players. This league has kind of been built on them. The more we can appreciate that, highlight that, talk about that, and then continue to have brands and companies invest in those players that have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important.” Caitlin Clark said to TIME magazine.

For her comments, Caitlin Clark surely got mixed reactions. While most people appreciated her for her honesty and empathy, there were a lot more who criticized her. Some trolls even called her out for being too attention-seeking with her comments about ‘white privilege’.
