As the NBA season unfolds, the Cleveland Cavaliers have surprised many with their impressive start, remaining undefeated early on. Key to their success has been a combination of improved shooting and dynamic ball movement, allowing the Cavs to capitalize on high-quality scoring opportunities.

The Cavs have made a significant mark in the early stages of the 2024-25 NBA season, boasting a remarkable record of 16-1. Their impressive performance has established them as one of the top teams in the league, but their recent loss to the Boston Celtics has provided a moment of reflection. Despite the setback, the Cavaliers showcased their resilience and competitiveness, proving they are legitimate title contenders.

Under the guidance of Coach Kenny Atkinson, the Cavaliers have developed a strong team identity characterized by their defensive prowess and ability to adapt. In their recent game against the Celtics, they faced a fierce opponent and managed to keep pace, demonstrating their capability to challenge even the best teams. Evan Mobley’s standout performance was crucial, as he led the charge by making key plays that kept Cleveland in contention.

Although missing key players like Isaac Okoro, Caris LeVert, and Max Strus, the Cavaliers displayed depth and determination. Their ability to compete without critical contributors speaks volumes about the team’s overall chemistry and the next-man-up mentality that has become a hallmark of their success. The Cavaliers’ strong bench play has been a significant factor in their impressive start.

Looking ahead, Cleveland faces a lighter schedule that could allow them to regain momentum and heal from injuries. Upcoming matchups against teams like the struggling New Orleans Pelicans and Toronto Raptors present opportunities for the Cavaliers to solidify their standing in the Eastern Conference.

Cleveland’s shooting has worked out so far for them, putting the team ahead of everyone else this season as a result. This reason is explained more in Brian Windhorst’s analysis for ESPN

It’s simple but powerful: The Cavs are making shots. They have the same roster as a year ago — and it should be noted that shooting specialists Max Strus and Sam Merrill have been knocked down with injury — that finished a pedestrian 15th in 3-point accuracy. So how do you explain why they’re shooting the best in the league at nearly 42% on 3s this year?

Well, there has been some positive luck for sure and they certainly will return to earth a little. But the Cavs’ offensive speed and ball movement mean more shots are open, and they’ve soared near the top of the league in average shot quality.

The Cavs have surged to an impressive start this season, largely due to their exceptional shooting performance. With nearly 42% accuracy from beyond the arc, they’ve transformed their offensive approach, showcasing improved ball movement and shot quality.

Despite injuries to key players, the team has maintained a strong roster and consistency in scoring. This hot start sets the stage for their aspirations in the playoffs. If the Cavaliers can sustain this level of play, they could emerge as serious contenders in the Eastern Conference this spring.
