Celtics’ Jaylen Brown Says He Prefers ‘Waffle House’ Over White House, Can’t Escape Politicizing Visit – ‘Everything is a Political Decision’

Boston Celtics star and 2024 Finals MVP Jaylen Brown is not big on visiting the White House, a tradition among professional American sports teams who won the title.

However, he had to join the team because to him, it is about celebrating their achievement.

Brown is among, if not the most, vocal NBA players when it comes to social issues and so, many were expecting him to bring up political issues during their visit to the presidential home.

That was not the case yesterday as he insisted that his politics will take a backseat for the moment to highlight the Celtics victory.

“Everything is a political decision if you ask me,” Brown said as quored by CelticsBlog’s Noa Dalzell when asked about collective decision to make the visit.

“But personally, what I would say, I would go to Waffle House or wherever with my guys to celebrate what we’ve done. It doesn’t really matter. It’s about our group, so to celebrate with our group that we did something special is pretty cool to me.”

It would really be weird to not see Brown in this event as he is among the leader of the team that gave the Celtics their first championship since 2008.

He is currently the vice president of the NBA Players Association.

Jaylen Brown insists his advocacies remains important

Jayson Tatum enjoyed being part of the tradition, something he said was a childhood dream.

Brown feels the same way and although he tried to be less political, he remains determined in promoting values and reforms he has been fighting for. This includes raising the age of criminals as well as the right of athletes to speak out on issues despite their status.

“In that moment, we were there to celebrate our championship,” Brown said.

“But even in that, we’re still using our platform to bring up certain initiatives. Any time we get a chance to use our platform to create change, I’m an advocate and supporter of that … we were there to celebrate with our guys.”

The Celtics are expected to defend their title this season and if that happens, Brown will have to decided whether he wants to visit Donald Trump or not next tear.
