After spending the first 13 years of his NBA career with the Miami Heat, Dwyane Wade made the unprecedented move to join the Chicago Bulls via free agency to join forces with Jimmy Butler.

But it didn’t pan out for the Chicago Bulls, as they were defeated 4-2 by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2017 NBA playoffs. Dwyane Wade eventually left the Windy City to join the Cleveland Cavaliers, while Jimmy Butler was moved to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Speaking on the 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast with Carmelo Anthony and Kid Mero, Dwyane Wade looked back on his lone year with the Chicago Bulls. He apologized to Jimmy Butler for not being on his best behavior when they were teammates.

“I set a bad precedent, I apologize. Jimmy Butler was on that team, so he probably picked up some bad habits from me,” Wade said. ” I was old, I was like ‘man, I get to live the NBA experience, I was a military baby for 14 years, I got one year to get out and stretch my arms,’ I was like I’m about to take advantage.”

“So I really wasn’t a good vet to those guys man, I apologize. It wasn’t about y’all it was about me, so I apologize,” he added.

The Chicago Bulls haven’t been the same

Since 2016-17, the Chicago Bulls have only made the postseason once. They made it in 2022 but lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in five games during the first round.

The Chicago Bulls were in the play-in tournament in the past two years, but they couldn’t get over the hump. Fast forward to today and they’re seemingly headed towards a rebuild after trading Alex Caruso and DeMar DeRozan.
