With All-Star Guard DeMar DeRozan sent to the Sacramento Kings recently, the Chicago Bulls are now entering a rebuild. As this is happening, the team’s young forward, Patrick Williams, has come forth with a critical update to his injury status.
After a successful college career at Florida State, where he was named ACC Sixth Man of the Year and to the ACC All-Freshman team, Williams declared for the 2020 NBA Draft. He was selected fourth overall by the Chicago Bulls, signing his rookie scale contract with the team in November of 2020.

Williams made his NBA debut a month later by putting up 16 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in a loss against the Atlanta Hawks. He continued to show promise throughout his rookie season, scoring a season-high 24 points against the Brooklyn Nets in May of 2021.
During the 2021-22 season, Williams suffered a dislocated wrist, which required surgery and sidelined him for several months. He returned to the court in March 2022 and had a strong finish to the season, scoring a career-high 35 points in the regular season finale against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Even though he only played 43 games last season, the Bulls still signed Williams to a $90 million contract extension for the next five years. It remains to be seen whether he can live up to that deal or underwhelm again like in the past years.
Chicago Bulls Forward Patrick Williams Sends Promising Update After Signing $90 Million Extension

Although the NBA is set to return in a couple of months, Williams has been busy regaining his health. In a post Darnell Mayberry shared on X, the Bulls forward has dropped an update for the following season.
Bulls forward Patrick Williams, who is rehabbing left foot surgery, when asked how he’s feeling physically: “I’m pretty good. I’m running and jumping now. No pain. No swelling. So it’s just a matter of getting my legs back under me,” Mayberry tweeted.
Over the course of four seasons, Williams has averaged 9.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists. He also shot 47 percent from the field, 41 percent from deep, and 78 percent from the free throw line.

It’s expected Williams will be back in action when the latest season begins. His presence will be crucial for a Bulls team that will now find their identity after trading DeRozan away.
