Chicago Bulls faced the Miami Heat twice this weekend and Nikola Vucevic suddenly had a realization. Why are they always close to each other once the regular season wraps up? The two teams split their two-game series although the Bulls were beaten bad in the loss after getting an upset in the first one.

The loss has Vucevic reflecting on his team’s last four seasons and thought that something’s gotta change in the franchise.
“I think that there are certain things that this team needs to take the next step, but we’ll see what happens,” he said on Monday.
“If nothing happens then it’s on us to try and figure it out and get there. You know it’s not fun when you’re in the same position year after year, and especially when you can’t get out of that play-in, you get stuck behind Miami every time, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Vucevic is the oldest player in the team and has been with them since 2021. He has one one playoff game so far.
Chicago Bulls in past seasons
Heat at least have something to brag. They’ve reached the NBA Finals twice during Jimmy Butler era. They were a play-in team in one of those. They battled and lost to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets.
Bulls’ case is more miserable. The Billy Donovan era that started in 2020 is yet to yield a notable result. They have reached the playoffs only once with a six seed in 2020-2021 season.
Vucevic’s thoughts about the play-in is true. They only afforded the play-in in the last three years and lost to the Heat in all those instances. The team is also yet to produce an All-Star under Donovan.

The veteran center remains hopeful with the team. Changes have to be made and he knows what they need.
“We’re pretty undersized at most positions. I think that’s it, that would be the main thing. Because the way the league is right now and a lot of teams have these big wings, I think that’s something that can definitely help us if we add some of that.
