San Antonio Spurs point guard Chris Paul recently revealed details about his retirement, and what made him reach a decision at this point of his career.
In an interview released by the Spurs, Chris Paul talked about his career and where he sees himself in the coming years. Among other things, he talked about his plan to play ball one last time.
“Maybe a year or two,” Paul said, talking about retirement. “I’m still trying to feel it out. I think the hardest part is—like I love this, like practice today, I love hooping, I love all of that. The hardest part is when I get home and I have to watch my kids’ games on the iPad or whatnot, so that’s the tug of war right now.”
He also touched on his “toughest” year and emphasized that being away from his family is a huge sacrifice for him.

“Last year was probably one of the toughest years for me, he added. “I just love to hoop. I wanna play. If I’m gonna sacrifice my family and be away from them, then I at least need to be playing.”
So far this season, Chris Paul averages 10.2 points per game, four rebounds, and 8.5 assists.
Chris Paul on Why He Chose To Play His 20th Season: “It’s Fun”
Earlier this year, Chris Paul became a free agent, and while he has the option to retire—seeing that he has played 19 seasons so far back then—he chose to sign with the San Antonio Spurs and play his 20th season with the Western Conference team.

On why he still chose to throw hoops despite his long tenure in the league, Paul revealed in an earlier interview that he finds playing basketball fun.
“I think what keeps me going is it’s fun,” Paul said. “I get a chance to play basketball every day and say that’s my way of life. I get a chance to take care of my family. I have a family, I have my kids, I get a chance to compete, I’ve been hooping since I was four or five years old. I still get a chance to do that at a high level, and I don’t take it for granted.”
