San Antonio Spurs star Chris Paul was caught apparently talking trash to Detroit Pistons backup guard Dennis Schroder during their matchup on Tuesday. The incident took place after Paul was charged with a foul on Tobias Harris in the middle of the first quarter.

As Harris was about to shoot his two free throws, Paul could be heard shouting smack at a member of the opposing team. The commentators assumed that the 12-time All-Star was talking to Schroder at that moment. X user “@BricksCenter” also claimed so in the caption of the shared clip.

Paul could be heard yelling in the video, “Tell yo daddy I said it too.”

Chris Paul and Dennis Schroder used to be teammates, playing significant roles for the OKC Thunder during the 2019-20 season. They led the Thunder to a 44-28 record in the Western Conference, securing the fifth spot in the conference standings.

There wasn’t any context as to why Paul would talk trash to the German journeyman.

Dennis Schroder learned a lot from Chris Paul

Dennis Schroder had one of the best seasons of his career when he teamed up with Chris Paul in OKC during the 2019-20 NBA season. That lone season gave the German point guard the chance to learn from one of the smartest players in the league and improve his game.

During that season, Schroder finished second in the Sixth Man of the Year voting, averaging 18.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and four assists. The following season, Schroder moved on with the LA Lakers.

Recalling his time with CP3, Schroder spoke about him in an interview, talking about the All-Star’s influence in his career.

“Leadership, how he talks to teammates, what he brings to the table every game. He’s 35 years old but he took care of his body. He’s just a great guy and [in the] top five of all-time point guards,” he said.“He’s up there. He’s a great person, his family is nice. I learned a lot from him.”

Paul, in turn, also had the same level of respect for Schroder. During the 2020 NBA Bubble, CP3 talked about how he loves playing with the guard hailing from Germany.

“Love my teammates. Dennis Schroder is a dog. I’d go down, play against anyone anyway with him any day,” Paul said back then.

Paul and Schroder surprised the league when they led the Thunder to a postseason appearance. Paul averaged 17.6 points, five rebounds, and 6.7 assists during that season.
