During the postgame presser of the Cleveland Cavaliers-Orlando Magic on Monday night, Donovan Mitchell called the recent Minnesota shootings “senseless,” urging the people not to choose political sides and instead look inward into their humanity.
“It’s violence. Senseless violence,” Mitchell said via Spencer Davies of ClutchPoints. “It’s one of those things where there’s a human element to all of this, right? We were there for the first incident (where an ICE officer shot and killed Renee Good), and then to see it happen again, it’s like it’s become the norm. It’s become something that, quite frankly, I don’t feel like any of us in here are like, ‘Man, that’s a normal thing.’ That shouldn’t be.”
“I see the ‘Oh, it’s the sides.’ Like, nah, it’s the human element,” he reiterated. “It’s the human part that, I’m trying not to curse, that gets to me, you know what I’m saying? There’s so much craziness, like, ‘Oh, it’s this. It’s that.’ It’s like, nah, let’s be humans. What about that? That’s what is awful. It’s not right. It’s not right that it keeps happening, and it’s not right that it’s desensitized the way it is.”
The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) released a statement on Monday afternoon about ICE’s killing of protestor Alex Pretti last weekend, which happened after Renee Good died in Minneapolis. Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson doubled down on Mitchell’s take by calling the shootings “tragic.”

Cleveland Cavaliers News: Donovan Mitchell drops nonchalant quote about the team’s winning run
Following the 114-98 home win yesterday against the Orlando Magic, the Cleveland Cavaliers are now on a four-game winning streak, improving to 28-20 this season. However, during the courtside interview, Donovan Mitchell didn’t sound too satisfied about it.
“Honestly, I’m not even worried about the four in a row. Let’s just find a way to continue to be better each day… We dug a pretty big hole for ourselves, so just trying to find ways to get out of that,” Mitchell stated.
To his credit, the Cleveland Cavaliers star went off against Orlando, dropping 45 points, four rebounds, four assists, and five three-pointers on 15-for-25 shooting from the field and going 10-for-12 from the charity stripe in 35 minutes of action.
