Montrezl Harrell managed to sneak in on Thursday’s NBA media day despite being out of the NBA since 2023 and it is not for the right reasons. The former Los Angeles Clippers forward aroused curiosity of people on X curious after a series of posts about the sudden end of his contract with an Australian ball club.

Harrell, who won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2020, was released by National Basketball League’s Adelaide 36ers, a move that had some of their fans shocked since the American forward was instrumental in their 2024 campaign. He even got the All-NBL Second Team.
The Adelaide 36ers have parted ways with Montrezl Harrell as the club prepares to open its Hungry Jack’s NBL26 campaign.

The Australian team meant business but Harrell is not taking it lightly. On his X account, he suggested that there’s more to the story than what was publicized.
“Wait till you hear the real story on this lol how quick the switch goes,” he wrote quoting the 36ers’ post.
He then added some more reactions. It was business move for Adelaide, but to him, it has turned personal.
Miss me wit the fake love man I didn’t need it now shit got personal for me! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Montrezl Harrell was banned due to drug use
The situation Harrell is in now started with his time in China when he played for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in China’s CBA. The country’s anti-doping agency announced that he tested positive for carboxy THC last April and is currently serving a two-year ban.
The 36ers said this is the reason why he was let go.
As it stands, Harrell is not permitted to train or play, and with no timeline on when the process will be finalised and no certainty on any sanctions, the Club has been left with no option but to terminate Harrell’s contract to allow it to move to finalise the playing roster.
Because the matter in China is ongoing, the Adelaide 36ers remain constrained by the confidentiality policies of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and are unable to comment further on the matter.

Harrell, who last played for the Philadelphia 76ers, suggests this is the first time he’s heard of the two-year ban.
Swear every morning it’s some new on social media now y’all say I got two years lol since wen 🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️🤣😂
