‘Playing Off Him Has Been a Treat for Me’ – Cooper Flagg’s Numbers See Massive Improvement and Mavericks Rookie Credits 1 Player for It

Are things finally looking good for the Dallas Mavericks? One can think so after they just recorded their third straight win. Not only that, their rookie Cooper Flagg is getting more comfortable, too, playing in his more natural role.

The Mavs won against the Miami Heat on Wednesday, a follow up to their victories over West giants Denver Nuggets and the struggling Los Angeles Clippers. This is their longest win streak so far.

Flagg scored 22 points in the latest win on an efficient 9 out of 13 shooting. He also had 6 rebounds, one assist, and one block. He has been on a tear lately and he recorded his career high a few days ago when he torched the Clippers with his 35 points.

His recent streak put him close to the record set by Los Angeles Lakers star Lebron James 22 years ago.

The rookie had some sort of struggle this season after head Jason Kidd decided to use him as a point guard. He makes a good account of himself from time to time when it comes to playmaking but it prevented him from being a scorer as a forward.

Kidd credits Flagg’s ability to learn quick and mastery of the basics for his ongoing success.

“He understands what’s a good shot and what’s a bad shot and as a matter of fact he ask the question if he’s should shoot more,” the coach said.

I think he understands the game of basketball and he’s having fun doing it.”

Cooper Flagg details chemistry with AD

The 2025 no. 1 pick is cooking and he believes it has a lot to do with the return of Anthony Davis who returned after a lengthy injury rehab.

“It’s so much better for us when he’s out there, obviously the caliber of player he is,” he told reporters after the game when asked about AD’s impact.

“Just between him and Klay on the court at the same time, the amount of gravity that those two guys have of just pulling defenses toward them…Playing off him has been a treat for me to be alongside him and it just made our team so much better.”

AD was one of the players Flagg was most excited to play with after it was reported that he resorted to NBA2k games to have a feel of his dynamics with the 10x All-Star.
