On Tuesday night, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham became the latest victim of a sex toy scandal breaking out at WNBA games.
It was unclear why green dildos were thrown onto league courts in recent days, but The Athletic is reporting the incident was a part of a “coordinated effort” in the cryptocurrency market.
“The incident in Los Angeles — as well as others that occurred that evening — appears to be part of a coordinated effort, born out of the murky and often mysterious corners of internet culture, social media and opportunistic plays in the cryptocurrency markets.
“Like many things on the internet, users often interact without revealing their identities, especially in public settings. Memecoins, a novelty digital asset originating from a meme, are part of an odd intersection of jokes that turn into something users try to spin into an asset with more value, like Dogecoin or Shiba Inu coin.”
Indiana Fever G Sophie Cunningham was nearly hit by a sex toy

The crypto memcoin community “Green Dildo Coin” is believed to be behind the spree of sex-toy attacks at WNBA games.
The league has stated that persons throwing objects onto courts will be ejected immediately and would be banned from games for one year. They are also subject to arrest by local authorities.
As Cunningham posted to X before she was nearly pelted by the dildo, WNBA players are endangered by objects being thrown onto the court.
The league needs to think about imposing stricter measures than a one-year ban to stop the attacks.
