Dallas Mavericks are not being thrown out there as the team with a legit chance to the NBA title. The league’s recently released power rankings got Jason Kidd’s squad as #8 in the Western Conference with Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, and Houston Rockets owning up the Top 3.

Kidd’s latest words might make critics reconsider. They got Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving, Cooper Flagg, and Dereck Lively II as starters. However, that does not exactly mean they are the best combination the coach can have as he believes anyone can be a starter.

“Yeah, there is no drop off,” he told Landon Thomas when asked about team’s depth.

“White team believes they can start. The competition and chirpiness is at a very high level.”

Other official members of the squad are Daniel Gafford, PJ Washington, Naji Marshall, Max Christie, and Dante Exum. New acquisition D’Angelo Russell might also start. Also in the line up are Caleb Martin and veteran Dwight Powell.

I asked Jason Kidd about the depth of the roster where there isn’t much drop off from first five to second five and what that does for the team….

Dallas Mavericks got two starting five

Depth is one of the main criteria for a team to contend and it is not just Kidd who believes they got it. Those who battle it out on the floor during practices, too.

“That’s confidence for us as a group knowing that we strike fear in opposing teams for starting 5 vs starting 5,” said Washington and Christie.

“It’s fine we got a great starting 5… to the bench, guys that I think are probably the most deep team in the league.”

Mavs are moving on to a new era post Luka Doncic. They are a team built to win now after that shocking trade. The squad will be tested tomorrow in a pre-season game against defending champions Thunder.
