Klay Thompson put out a vintage performance in the Dallas Mavericks’ 113-105 home victory against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night, as the four-time NBA champion had 18 points and six three-pointers in 27 minutes off the bench.
“Klay was great tonight. Reaching 2,800 (3-pointers) is really cool. I think 5th all-time is big time. He’s going to continue to keep climbing the charts there. I thought he was great for us offensively. We stretched his minutes tonight,” head coach Jason Kidd said of Thompson via Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News.
By doing so, Thompson has reached 2,801 career three-pointers and is three treys away from tying Damian Lillard for fourth on the NBA’s all-time threes list. He can easily surpass the Portland Trail Blazers guard as soon as the Dallas Mavericks‘ Wednesday game against the Denver Nuggets.
Besides Thompson, Cooper Flagg, Naji Marshall, Jaden Hardy, and Max Christie scored double-digit points for the Dallas Mavericks, with 27, 22, 14, and 10 points, respectively. The victory snapped the team’s two-game slide to improve to 15-25 in the season.

Dallas Mavericks News: Klay Thompson reflects on reaching 2,800 career three-pointers
During his postgame press conference, Klay Thompson expressed his gratitude to the Dallas Mavericks’ fans for their support after breaching the 2,800 career three-pointers mark in last night’s win over the Brooklyn Nets.
“It makes me realize how fast time has gone and how fast it does go by when you’re having fun and doing what you love. A lot like even with (Cooper Flagg), he told me he was like 9 years old when he watched the 2015 Finals, and that puts so much into perspective. I feel honored to be still out here, playing at a high level,” Thompson stated via DLLS Sports’ Abby Jones.
“My next goal is to make it to 1,000 regular season games. For me, I’m just enjoying everyday. Being able to put these sneakers on and run up and down the court and be a great teammate. Pro sports are hard. It’s hard to have longevity… it just takes great commitment to get to this point, and I’m excited to be the veteran on the team. It’s a true (swatting Cooper Flagg away) honor,” he added.
