The Dallas Mavericks couldn’t last against the New York Knicks on Tuesday and had a 128-113 loss. Coming into the game, they were tied with the Phoenix Suns at the 10th spot in the Western Conference. However, their loss against the Knicks puts them in the 11th spot with a 35-38 record this season. Their chances of being a playoff team have gradually declined since they traded All-Star Luka Doncic.

Aside from losing out on Doncic, the Mavericks suffered several injuries to their team, including Kyrie Irving. The All-Star has been ruled out of the season due to a torn ACL in his left knee. Additionally, the player they received in the Doncic trade, Anthony Davis, has only appeared in two games as he missed a significant time because of an adductor strain.

Klay Thompson, the veteran star, and the other healthy players were left to try to salvage the 2024–25 season. Thompson played 21 minutes against the Knicks, but his on-court performance wasn’t the finest. He was 2-for-11 from the field with six points. As New York emerged victorious, he was captured on camera sitting on the bench, wearing a bitter expression.

Former NBA star says Anthony Davis returning to the Dallas Mavericks is good

Anthony Davis returned to the Dallas Mavericks lineup on Monday after recovering from his adductor strain. He played 26 minutes and finished with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. AD also had a steal and a block against the Brooklyn Nets.

The majority of supporters and detractors believed that Davis should sit out the remainder of the season, but the big man has a different perspective. Carlos Boozer is among the few who think it’s a positive thing to have the 2020 champion back in the lineup, aside from the 10-time All-Star.

“As a player who’s been injured, and obviously AD has a huge history of being injured, you can’t wait to get back on the basketball court, from AD’s perspective,” Boozer said.

“His reputations on the line, they traded Luka, they seen the Lakers shine, that’s the team he just came from, everybody knows he’s paying attention, how could he not, he wants to get back out there and give those guys an idea of what it might look like for next year, obviously Kyrie will miss some of next year of course, but if this team is healthy and AD is healthy, they going to be a force.”
